I did my best to get photos of them as they flew by in pairs but it was hard to focus on them against the green background but at least I got the colours!img_7870a img_7860a img_7861a

This beautiful St Lucia endemic is most easily seen at Des Cartiers Trail in St Lucia.

Birding The Grounds Of Curicaca Lodge

I had absolutely no information about this hidden gem before we showed up, but Curicaca Lodge delivered some fantastic and easy birding.  Before the sun actually rose, we could hear the resident Hyacinth Macaws calling while some monkeys and Blue-fronted Amazons looked on.

Blue-fronted Amazon (Amazona aestiva)

The Blue-fronted Amazon (Amazona aestiva), also called the Turquoise-fronted Amazon and Blue-fronted Parrot, is a South American species of amazon parrot.  Its common name is derived from the distinctive blue marking on its head just above its beak.

They range throughout southern South America in Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay & Bolivia.  I have seen them both at the Caiman Ecological Refuge & Curicaca Wildlife Refuge in the Pantanal.

Help The World Parrot Trust Save Wild Amazon Parrots

The World Parrot Trust always has an annual appeal over December & January in which certain wild parrots in need are highlighted so you can help save them.  This year it’s the Amazon Parrots which are being highlighted as they are major targets for wildlife poachers and have suffered greatly from habitat loss.

WPT 2015 appeal

Although donations are being doubled until the end of January, I do want to point out to Americans that if you donate before 31 Dec, you will get a receipt for your 2016 tax return.
